So you're a proud new candle owner, now what? Like all candle owners you want to get the best life out of your candle. Will it burn evenly? When do I need to trim the wick? How do I prevent soot and smoke? Don't worry, we have you covered!
Your first burn: The first thing you do before lighting your candle is to insure the wick is the proper length. What's the proper length you ask? You want your wick to be 1/4 of an inch in length. This insures the candle wick doesn't burn too hot resulting in smoke or soot. You will want to trim the wick to this size each time you go to burn your candle. It is important to trim your wick once cooled. This helps prevent debris from falling into your melt pool.
It is important that the wax melts fully across the surface of the candle every time you burn it. The amount of time it takes for a candle to reach a full melt pool depends on the size of the candle, the surface it is on and the room temperature. Typically it can take anywhere from 2-4 hours. Making sure the candle reaches its full melt pool each time will prevent tunneling and help you get the best life out of your candle!
You will want to make sure you are burning your candle on a heat resistant surface. Ideally a surface that is flat, away from drafts, fans, and out of reach of children and pets. Since most surfaces aren't flat it may help to rotate your candle 180 degrees every 30 min or so.
Now its time to sit back and enjoy your Sapphire Moon Candle!
